Kohler Rebuild Help

I'm currently waiting for parts to put my 30hp Kohler back together. I have a few questions. When I put it back together what is the best way to prime the oil pump? What oil would you recommend? I've always heard not to use synthetic, because the rings won't seal right. I want to put the best oil I can in it. I'm putting new rings and head gaskets and replacing all the seals. Any tips you have when putting these back together? Is there a break in period? Thanks in advance guys.

You don't wanna use synthetic in a fresh rebuild. Wait till its due for a change. If you're worried about oil, just stick with Kohler brand oil.
Sounds like ya need to download a free service manual from Kohler, pay attention to the lifter bleed/install procedures.
It ain't rocket science! far.

Just assemble the engine using the oil you are going to run in it..
To prime the oilpump and the rest of the engine....
Fill the engine oil to the proper level ..
Disconnect the sparkplug wires..
Crank the engine for 10 to 15 seconds....3 or 4 times...
Check the should be low now....
Add engine oil to get to the proper level..
Reconnect it off..

There is no break in period on a rebuilt engine..
Tune and adjust the engine to the desired specs.
Change the motor oil and filter after 8 to 10 running hours...
If You Have All The Answers...Except The One You Need...You're Not Trying Hard Enough...
Do The Work

Kohler recommends running a NEW engine for 250 hours before switching to a synthetic oil.
