grass mulching in ny ?

Anyone able to get away with mulching throughout the entire cutting season start to finish in upstate new york? Have been thinking about this today when I was mulching leaves. I guess anything is mulchable depending on how many times your go over it but that doesnt seem efficient.anyone do this ? And if so what mower and blades do you run? Double cutting a must or one pass do the job ? I was thinking about getting a turf tracer 48" s series with mulch blades.

I'm not in NY but have similar grasses. Started mulching in the spring and still mulching. Will be bagging most starting next week since there's plenty of leaves down. I use one set of stock ex mark wavy mulch blades and a set of wavy mulch blades from j Thomas.

Hey Ron,

I believe we're in the same area. I mulch/side discharge most of the summer, you have to mow weekly if you do this, ten days and its usually too long. Bag for clean ups for a bit in the spring until the grass really starts growing. Then I throw the bags back on when the leaves start coming down. Recycling the grass is great for turf, but with all the trees we have around here, the mulched up leaves and pine needles will be way overkill for returning to the turf in most cases.

For me this means taking the bags and vac off my ztr for the summer months and throwing on a little mulching kit attachment i made, which I use mostly for side discharge anyways. Your best bet would be something with a bagger you could take off and mulch/side discharge with during the summer. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have actually been looking into this.... And Backyardlumberjack makes the best point.... As long as those contracts are weekly, should be no problemo at all. I think of mulching and side discharging in the same way with respect to the weekly cut, as long as it is frequent, the QOC should be fine. I currently run a 48 inch collection deck and I am looking into a 62 SD with doubles for next season....
