Question about blade belt on Gravely Pro 160

Today while mowing one of my customers lawns I broke the long blade drive belt. Pretty good service considering it had over 1100 hrs on it. So I pick up a new one at my dealer and go to the shop to change it. The belt is not a normal v belt but instead it's a six sided belt. Working by myself I can't seem to get the thing mounted without it being twisted. I call my dealer and ask him if there's a special trick to mount it without having twists. He tells me not to worry and that it will self correct itself after about 5 minutes of running. So I mow my front yard. After finishing I check and the belt is still twisted. I'm sorry, but this just doesn't seem right. Should I worry/correct this? Or just forget about it?

Oh yes, and ruined a brand new $100 belt within 5-10 minutes too, I am sure I have experienced this.
But was the old belt a Double-V also?

For anything else I'm going to need a model and serial number.
