New guy from West Michigan

Hi guys, first off thank you everyone for some great info on this site as I have been a lurker for 2 years. I just officially started the business this past month but have been running numbers/ideas for about 2 years now. I have a full time career and am doing this on the side. As of now I am averaging 4-6 lawns a week, only one of those is guaranteed weekly though. My goal by 2017 is to have 8-12 weekly accounts, and 1 commercial weekly account(I have my eye on it and it comes up for bid yearly). I have so far only advertised on Craigslist. I have also been mowing for a large property management company when they have a tenant vacancy. This is the equipment I have so far:
-2006 Avalanche
-4x6 utility trailer
-Echo Es-250 blower
-Echo Pas-266 with trimmer, edger, blower, and clippers attachments
-2014 Toro 30" Turfmaster Mower

I would like to also get a nice stand on mower for next year but that would also require a larger trailer and then also I'd need to get a storage unit for the trailer/equipment as of right now I can fit everything in my garage. So I really need to figure out how much that commercial account would be worth for the upgrades Id need to make. I need to also find a good but simple program for jobs/inventory. I've been looking at Gopher Pro basic version. So far I've been paid in cash(don't worry I'm claiming everything I make) so I haven't had to worry about invoicing. Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated and thanks again!

You could gain that many accounts by the end of this year if you really wanted to. For sure by next season. If you want free for just scheduling, pm me. There is a program add on for Mozilla Thunderbird that i use to schedule 16 accounts and a few other things. Welcome to lawnsite!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm trying to grow slowly and get my feet wet this year and my plan is to do some good advertising next February/March and try to build. Nixray- Yes I live in Holland(south side), pretty much born and raised here. Are you from Holland as well?

Well as an example ive officially been in business 3 years and this year I've been getting 2+ calls a day this season. If you just went door to door you would have that number by the end of the day with a good presentation.
