cherry tree HELP!!!

hey guys I've got two cherry trees in my personal yard and i noticed the leaves where starting to fall off of the one and it has a ton of sap coming out of it in several areas and what looks like some one took a little drill bit to the side of the tree and i was just curious if any of y'all had any ideas of what it may be and any possible treatments. here are the pictures i took of it today. half of the tree looks dead.

cherries are prone to getting borers. Most systemics should do the trick. That one looks like it may be too late. Probably not related but cherries are starting to lose leaves here already.

It could possibly be a borer. Such as peach tree borer or another type. I would contact a licensed tree expert in your area. Someone such as Bartlett Tree Experts. They are nationwide and should have an office close to you. What chemical remedies available to them will not always be available to you, because some chemicals are restricted use chemicals. I have a turf pesticide license but I do not have access to some chemicals for trees and shrubs, because I do not have a tree?shrub license. I would act fast.

Interesting stuff thanks for the link. I don't recall ever noticing any wasp like moths around here so maybe I've seen Cytospora cankers on trees before and not peach tree borers but interesting never the less. Good luck with your cherry tree to the OP

Peach tree borers usually do damage lower than this. So it probably is not that. The most important thing is, that he gets someone out there who is knowledgeable and can identify the problem, solve it and stop it from spreading, and doing additional damage.,

well i had a tree guy come out and look at the two trees and the verdict is that the one is two far gone and something to do with the roots wrapping up at the bottom of the tree along with the borer but he also said that the extremely harsh winter we had in the NW burbs of Chicago damaged a lot of the root systems in the area. however the in the fall he is going to return to treat the other tree with the soil drench of the systemic insecticide

Ill post pics of the roots later when i get the chance.

thanks for the help fellas
