Starting over

This fall my dad and I plan to just over haul our grass. Just tear up what we got and put new down. What is the best way to replant?? Should we use sod or like plant it then put that net stuff over it?? What is the best way to start from scratch?? O and its a pretty decent sized yard too.

Have you considered having it hydroseeded?
You say it is a considerable size lawn, sod can get expensive in a hurry.
Depending on the grade of the lawn and if you are going to have it regraded to fix any bumps and dips. With hydroseeding you can simply spray roundup to kill all all exsisting vegetation. Till the lawn to break up the soil and add any soil admendments that are needed and then simply hydroseed. The mulch and tackifiers in the hydroseeding slurry will help prevent erosion and the act of spraying the grass seed will insure good seed to soil contact. Less work than preping and laying sod and a fraction of the cost. More grass choices available from seed than you will find available as sod as well. Sod will give you instance gratification of having a new lawn where as hydroseeding will require 3 to 4 weeks before the first mowing. Results can be similar its just a matter of time versus money.

Why not wait till fall and round up whole yard . Go rent a slice seeder and replant. Dont have to till with a slice seeder it cuts the seed into the ground.
