New Home Need help

I just moved in to my new home. There is not any grass. I plan to seed it with an annual ryegrass and then in the spring sod it with St. Augustine. I was told that the ryegrass will grow quickly, help prevent erosion from heavy rains, stop all the dust, and will serve as a nice organic base for the st. ausgustine to use when I sod. What type of ryegrass should I use and how much. Any tips on how to plant, watering rates, and fertilizers so that I get a nice thick turf. I have one acre. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
