Sounds like you under priced to begin with, and you even said you cut costs to save him money. Obviously something isn't right. I would either offer to refund his money, fix it right, or give him a price to do it like it should have been done witout cutting costs. Chalk this one up as a learning experience.

I have been in situations like this before. Its not a good place to be. I have done work before for cheap so that I could learn how to do it. You end up cutting corners, and then you get rushed, its just a mess. Lesson learned....more than once. Go over there spend some time on it....do whatever it takes to make it work. You are wasting times making trips, when you could have just did it right from the get go. You will feel better, he will feel better, and everything will work out.
