Talking new to Athletic field mowing

I just had a couple questions and concerns

1. how hard is it to mow the grass to 1 1/4 inches??? do u have to go slow?

2. do you charge more for an athletic field rather than to a regular comm. or residental yard because of having to cut so low?

3. what types of mower does everyone else use?

4. I have a bid were they want it vacumed once a month to prevent the buildup of thatch do they mean they want it bagged or actualy vacumed?

5. and what does the average football field or baseball field go for?? between what 2 prices?? high and low

i currently maintain a private golf course.
mowing at 1 1/4" on my 3rd cut with a toro 2300d triplex with a 7' cut
depending on the size of your mower it really shouldnt be any slower, especially being you are on a flat straight surface.
i price my contract more towards the fact that there are not too many people who are willing to purchase 3 triplex mowers for a specific job, especially since its the only contract that i use these mowers on, as they are job specific.

I tdepends on how manicured you want to get. In order to get a nice cut like zmog said jsut drop height in increments rather than try to do it all in one pass and the clippsings will be so fine it shouldn't really be an issue. I had an athletic director that insisted on vacuuming a field becasue clippings were getting on the uniforms. It's football! Its going to happen. Yes, she had a PhD. in case you were wondering.

Similar experience to zemog

doing fairways with a five reel 10 foot Jacobsen. Not a cheap machine nor cheap to operate. Mowing schedule was three times per week. clipping catcher baskets on for the first third of the season. To get an even cut at 1.5 inches you night have to consider going to reel mowers. Athletic field might not be as rigorious as this but it is probably what they would like to see

Others have given you the key: multiple cuts with increments and possibly with a reel mower. Don't forget to include this in your bid because it's going to take some time.

First you need to educate them that clippings aren't thatch, thatch is a build of of dead roots and shoots. Clippings are mostly water and decompose rapidly creating natural fertilizer for the turf. How often are you mowing this field to maintain 1.25"? Remember the 1/3 rule! If they are having you mow once a week how much growth are you getting? It shouldn't even get to 1.75" before mowing! If you are maintaining this height requraly it shouldn't be any more expensive than any other mow, but you are getting an increased frequency. I stop rambling now, hopes this helped

yes i do no about the 1/3 rule they want it cut twice a week and want it cut when the height reaches 1.75 in

How does the thatch build up? and how to remove it????

Even if i am only taking off 0.5 inch i should double cut it??
