Phone Book Covers?

I just got a call from someone selling ads on phone book covers. These are the vinyl type covers that slip over the phone book. They usually last about 3 years or more she said. They will be coming out in a few weeks.
The adds are 2" x2" for $159 or business card size for $189
They go out in the town I work in of about 20,000 and a town 50 miles away of about the same size.
Has anyone ever used this type of advertising? Do you get alot of price shoppers? Is that a good price? Would I be better of using yellow pages?
So far I have done very limited advertising with just as limited success. Just trying to expand my thinking without expanding the budget too much.

I get the same call from them every year. I did it my second year in business and what a waste! We advertise now in the Yellowbook with pretty nice display ads for two counties. Word of mouth also spreads.

No one uses phone books any more we all use the net search. Save The Trees!

Check REAL CLOSE on the amount of covers, esp for that price. What you will find that price is for 1,000 covers that they are printing for some local real estate company to give new home buyers is how that generally works

Yea I was wondering about that also. They said they distribute them through a couple of banks. and they go pretty fast. But who gets them? Maybe a regular yellow page add would be a better wya to spend the money.

I don't know who uses the yellow pages anymore. I ran an ad for a couple years, only got price shoppers until the last month I was running. The only LCO's called for the Federal job were the three listed in the phone book. We got the job, but it will never pay for the ad.

I did it a couple of years ago. I was right in the middle of the front cover. Not one call.

Can they tell you how many LCOs in the past did this and how many were repeat advertisers? They won't repeat the ad if it didn't do them any good.

Is there a good reason to put a cover on a phonepook?

New ones come out every year and mine hardly sees enough action to warrant a cover.

Sounds like they are selling advertising.... not results.
