Making website work for search engines


I've just been charged with looking at our company's website and making it more search engine friendly. I know a *little* bit about stuff like that, but basically I'm a novice.

The company - like everyone else - want to be #1 for 'turf' and 'buy turf online'. The website is

We're UK based, and I know this is a north american site, but any advice you guys could give me would be great.

Man, no offense but that's asking a lot... Lets just say I am happy with a first-page result and if I'm in the top 5 for most anything, that's reason for celebration.

In the meantime, whether this will get you a number one ranking I do not know, and careful what you implement so you don't end up using a blackhat technique, but I find this forum informative, meaning you have to read and do the usual:
