During the semnars I attend at M.S.U. they are saying to wait until the end of June into July to apply merrit. However, everyone I know is out now putting it on. What do all of you think?

It greatly depends on the pest you are targeting! Merit label covers turf and ornamental insect control.

Spot treat for grubs, chafer and jap bettle, full app in July. Applications won't be as effective now, due to the size of the grubs. It is a good idea to sign up for the CAT alert, if you havn't allready.

It seems everybody doesn't understand that it is too soon to attack grubs with merit. They are not close enough to the surface in their life cycle. I'm assuming that is why they are putting it down. A waste of money.

Bayer even indicates in their literature that late June and July are the best time for getting best control with Merit. Too many jump the gun and there is no residual left for control when the pressure comes Mid-aug, thru Oct.

MERIT?

NOW THAT OFTANOL IS GONE, AND DIAZINON IS NEXT, WE ARE
STUCK WITH MERIT AND MACH II. OR DYLOX FOR LATE SEASON
QUICK KILL. I USED TO WORK FOR TRU-GREEN AND THEY ALWAYS
PUT DOWN MERIT IN MAY/JUNE. I THINK THE MERIT LITERATURE
RECOMMENDS DOING IT NOW. BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THE BIG
NASTY GRUBS HIT IN THE LATE FALL.I THINK YOU SHOULD WAIT
TO USE IT. WHAT ARE YOU GUYS CHARGING? THAT STUFF IS REALLY
EXPENSIVE. TRU-GREEN CHARGES 2X THE REGULAR APP PRICE.

I believe MSU and OSU both reccomend early july applications for maximum effectiveness.
