It not even worth pulling the cables out for $3! Give them two quotes, one to fix it right and one to half ass it. Explain to them that one will not come back and the other way you'll end up with more of their money! Most shops will only do it right the first(and charge for it) since it affects their reputation. Suggest a two things: 1) for new customers, charge half price for the first job. If it doesn't break they will be back with other stuff. 2) If they don't like your price send them to another welding shop! It's not worth the frustrations!
Most people who try the cheap way usually end up remembering the piece of crap(new machine or repair work). People also remember how well something last and not the price they paid for it!

I grew up with dad always saying---Do it right or not at all---

That about covers it
If it takes ten minutes longer to do it right then that is how I fix it no if's and's or butts. Remember that it's your name on the line when something breaks!

I was working on an R/V and the man was waiting and getting ants in his pants. He asked how long I would be. I told him about another two hours. So he started *****ing. I quickly replied to him that I could just tack weld the jack mounts on and be done in about twenty minutes but the jacks would fall off the first or second use or I could weld them on so they will never break off in about two hours. He got the hint and I also got a nice tip off the job when finished.

The coat of paint when finished really does make the difference.
