What about the rubber from the front of a snow that snow deflector. That stuff is about 3/8 to 1/2 thick that might work pretty good.

I use a John Deere F687 Ztrack. I get nice stripes with out any type of "striper" attached.

A lot of mowers stripe good without one, a striping kit just makes it better, or more defined.

Thanks for the compliments. It is working good so far, no problems with curbs, tearing grass when turning, loading on trailer etc. Not bad for $0.00 and an hour worth of time!
