Typo
Actually the typo was for Bowman rather than us, but in your quoted text in your message I also noticed 'piece' should be 'peace' on their site.

Don't you just love it when you get the wrong word spelled right...then the spell checkers can't help
![]() One thing I noticed after I posted: You don't have a description tag. That's the little "blip" search engines put under your title. Without it they will just pick up the fist few words of text which may or may not be OK with you. Other than that, nice looking site

Sorry,
I got 2 sites confused you don't have a title or a description (so a search engine will show your listing as "Home")Somewhere in your site builder there should be a way to edit meta tags, if not you can Hand code" them if your site builder has an HTML editing option. They go above the <body> in the <head> section. Now yours says <title>Home </title> and you probably want Bowman Lawn Care or something better than "Home" in there. Then right under that you would have one like <meta name="description" content="Bowman lawn Care is the greatest thing since sliced bread" /> or whatever, all those spaces and symbols must be exactly that way if you hand-code it. Then the description will appear under your title in the search engines. (use no more than ~20 words, you have seen how search engines cut them off so make what you say first count) This is someone here I know's listing from Yahoo to illustrate what I mean: Teacher's Turf Lawn Care Auburn Ohio Pro Lawn Care for Auburn, South Russel, Bainbridge, Newberry, Taborville, Reminderville, Aurora, Solon & Twinsurg Ohio Area ... Care provides our lawn services ... www.classylawn.com - The top part is the title tag, the rest the description tag, but you see where the ...cuts it off.

Some ideas:
Put this before your <head> element: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> (lets at least try a loosely defined html 4.01, it appears to be the closest to a standard document declaration). - Change any /> to > (most are near the top of page, meta stuff). - Change your body tag to: <body onkeydown="mouse_capture();" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> (rightmargin and all that stuff is deprecated). - Put quotes around all element attributes (example: width="100", color="red", etc) ... an attribute value should always be quoted; use quotes if in doubt. - Add alt="" to all your image elements (yes, double quote, example: <img src="images/whatever.jpg" width="600" height="143" border="0" alt=""> )..... ALT is a required attribute for image elements. That should help fix some problems. Last edited by topsites; 10-21-2006 at 02:39 PM. |
