I just have a shop at my house. I needed a air compressor to operate a large glass bead machine. I have painted a couple of times.

I've got a 5.5 hp - 60 gallon air compressor that stays in my shop. If you go with one this big, it will probably be a 240 volt compessor. You will need to make sure that you have enough space in your fuse box to run it. I would also go with a belt drive over the direct drive motors- way too loud. I carry a 12 gallon air tank on my truck. It is plenty big enough to air up anything on the truck or trailer. I also keep a small 12 volt air compressor in the tool box for emergencies.
