About the only difference is the choke lever and padding on the back. Same amount of power. There's a few more things they have changed but I don't remember.

the differences are probably in like someone said up here... the padding and choke lever but the 2 cycle companies are still tryin to meet "perfect" EPA regulations. they are constantly trying to improve the way the units run. kind of like how they have the older bcz2400 and 2401. the 2401 has less power than the old 2400 because of this.

The 8001's do exist.
I've had mine since sometime in October.

They are an updated unit to the 8001.
I've listed the differences here somewhere.
To just look at them, you can see the frame and stuff is different.
But it goes farther than that.

The EBZ8001's ARE STRATO-CHARGED
Same engine as the 8000.

When will dealers start carrying the 8001?

The 8001 does not pass clean air in California, thats why I could not buy one in my state, so I could only buy a 8000

Somebody lied to you dead to your face...
Just to sell a dealer stock item (old 8000).

Man that ticks me off and it isn't even me!!!

I went and looked on mine.
The 8001's say right on them, on the engine sticker....

Meets 2006 California Emission Regulations

The manuals have the California Emissions Control Statement in them too.
