Got to remember a exhaust brake is like shoving a potato up the exhaust pipe to cause some back pressure. A JAKE brake uses a plunger to hold the exhaust valves open to let the engines friction slow the truck down.

Then Caterpillar has a ******er its kind of like a torque converter that they use oil pressure that is pumped from the engine and it causes drag to slow the truck.

A exhaust brake hisses and thats about it you never really hear it. If people are going to b***h about that tell the people with the motorbikes with loud pipes not to ride around at 12 am. If I'am driving a loaded truck I'am not shutting the engine brake off.

gravel rat, do you type just so you can read your own posts? I am not one to flame, but man some of the posts you put here are just too much. a JAKE brake plowing snow. Man you must have never driven a truck with a jake in the snow. this is the worst thing in the world, lets see 33k truck on slick road lets apply a uncontrolled amount of braking to the drive wheels only. in slick conditions this will lock up the back tires and present a real problem. maybe you should stick to the junk business after all.

Its the way plows are run here and the Jake isn't on all 6 cylinders its on just enough to hold back. The plow trucks are usually grossed to the max loaded with salt and chained up.

Here's a couple pictures just after paint........off my brother's cell phone, I've yet to see the truck. He said the lighting was dim so the truck is not as dark as it looks.

SNG told me today they're still 2 weeks out from shipping my system
