Best all around pesticide for pasture
I just took over 3 acres of pasture that has no trees, no flowers, and just a rough pasture grass. Nothing has ever been on this land nor has it ever been farmed. There were numerous weeds and all sorts of things in the pasture, so I decided to us Spectracide Pro - Broadleaf Weed Herbicide. I sprayed the entire 3 acres and it took out about 75% or more of the various weeds. Recently, crabgrass has taken over the front, and I purchased some Home Depot generic crab gass killer and it actually did a great job in killing the crab grass in the front 1 acre.
My question is: Are there any pesticides that will kill the crabgrass along with all the other weeds? Should I just go back and use Spectracide Pro again and then spray for crabgrass? Are these two products about all I will need? |

Be careful
If your spraying a pasture, are you advising your customer on the appropriate re-entry time for his livestock? I would be hesitant to apply herbicides in a livestock holding area. If the animals ever become sick for whatever reason you can be assured the owners will come looking for you.
Is the price your charging worth the potential liability if some of their livestock become ill? Just something to think about. |

Sorry about the termonology misuse. When I meant pasture, I didn't mean a grazing livestock pasture. I just meant a vacant old prairie pasture. No animals graze on this pasture. Just want to take out the weeds and make it look somewhat presentable.

You might want to try good ole 2-4d. There's not a more economical herbicide on the market. It will take care of all your broadleaves and also the crabgrass, which suprisingly enough is also a broadleaf. Be sure you use the ester formulation instead of the amine this time of the year. The only drawback could be the drift problem if there are ornamentals close by. Spray early in the morning or late in the evening when wind isn't usually a problem...................Lynn

It's Trimec Plus not Super Trimec for broadleaf and crabgrass control.

I'm glad I haven't completey lost my marbles. 2-4D will control crabgrass, but not the ester formulation it has to be the amine formulation. Do not use on St. Augustine or Centepide though...........Lynn
