fixed deck or floating?

i have been looking at the toro walk behinds and i love them. I am going to get a gear drive but i am torn between the fixed and floating deck. 15 or 17 kaw.? I was thinking of maybe a 40" deck. Thanks

It depends what your needs are, but if you plan on growing I would go with a 52" floating deck with the 17 hp kaw. If you are going to mow residentual lawns it's hard to beat the 52" deck. Good Luck Andrew

I talked to Toro sales rep at a lawn and garden show about this same question on a 36" deck. He said unless you are changing heights all the time there is no reason for a floating deck on such a small deck. The area covered by the deck on this small of a mower is not going to need a floating deck. I'm sure this would go for a 40 incher as well.

fixed decks are all I use on walkbehinds and there hard to beat. You can beat a fixed deck to death and they will keep giving you a great cut time after time. If you need to change the cutting height a floating deck is much easier than fixed. You have to disassemble the whole mower on a fixed deck to adjust the cutting height. I just set mine where I want it and leave it there.

YES! and if you want to change the height, the front spacers give you plenty of play to allow you to change it, and can be done in about 30 seconds!

Agreed, fixed deck is the only way I would go.
