If it has the 18hp Kohler Magnum horozontally opposed twin that is one great engine if it is in good running condition. If it is an older Kohler motor with points for timing it is still a good motor (K series), you just have to hassle with the points for a tune up.

If you get the motor designation and spec, go to smallenginewarehouse.com and you can see what a new such Kohler motor (or similar) costs.

If it is a 318 I've only heard good about them. Your resale probably couldn't go much under the $950 if you keep it maintained. Maybe do a search on this site too.

This stuff might give you some insight where to look for info. I never owned one but wouldn't mind buying one.

Even the single cylinder cast iron Magnums are great motors. I have a 14hp horizontal on my old Wheel Horse. Lots of torque.

I'd rather have an older 318 than new tin from Lowes.

On the JD website under residential ---> riding mowers ---> non-current equipment ---> LX serries, they only list a LX188, no LX186. The 188 has a liquid cooled 17hp motor, various deck width options.

Hi,

I have a LX 186 that I'm also trying to sell, I have used it for about 4 years without any trouble, they are great mowers. Mine has a 17hp Kawasaki with hydro trans. Depending on the shape of it, that price is ok, but mabe a little high. I was asking 700.00 for mine. Hope this info helps

Steve

It is a very dependable mower, the turning radius is pretty tight, but it's no zero turn. I have no clue about the snow blower, I'm in Florida, but I think I have seen them on ebay before on the same mower. Hope this helps. Also, to let you know, I'm having a hard time selling mine for $500.00, but the one you are looking at seems to be in better shape than mine.
