36" bunton wb transmition probs?

HI,
My tranny on my 36" bunton walk behind is stuck in either 4th or 5th gear. It will not shift down below 4th. Can someone tell me what might be causing this and if there is anything I can do to fix it. The mower is only 2 yrs old and not even used that much. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jason

If the shifter does move but doesn't change the gears the shift keys are broke which requires disassembly to replace.

Do you shift of the fly ? Doing this is really bad on the shift keys.

The shifter only moves between 4th and 5th, it wont go below 4th. Right now it is not a big deal because I only mow in 4th, but eventually I am going to want this fixed. I never shift on the fly either. Thanks for the reply.

Sometimes the shift detent ball/spring gets rusted and hangs up, If this is the problem doing the below should solve it.

On the top case half just below the shifter you should see a allen set screw. Count the turns it takes to remove it then shoot some penetrating oil (Fluid Film) in the hole and work the shifter back and forth. If it is now moving freely re-install the set screw the same number of turns.

Rob, this might not be the case...its a Bunton. They were using a Dana trans on them probably in the timeframe that he bought this one. Not the usually Peerless 700.

It may be in the same spot and it may not...really not sure. If you can get me the model number I can try to post up a parts breakdown of the trans. Or you could even look it up yourself on bobcat/bunton's website.

Could it be something with the safety switch hanging things up? I dunno what would do it on a Peerless 700 and I really dont know on one of those Dana's...LOL
