Be careful garnishing wages for any reason. The law sais you cannot garnish wages for ANY reason without writtten permission from the employee. A friend who excavates got turned in to the NH labor board by an angry ex-employee. His total fines were $80,000! He had to give back all garnished wages. He had worked out loans to a bunch of employees for cars, houses,-you name it. He had to give back ALL that money-even though he had legitamately loaned it and the employees had no beef, except the one who ratted him out.
ALSO, GET THIS- he let his guys use equipment on their own yards, or to move, or whatever. For each time he lent a piece of equipment to an employee he had to pay ALL his employees the fair market value of that equipment for the day! He got the shaft...and bad.
This guy is a really nice guy. He has 25 employees and he was really doing a lot for them with all his little side deals. Now he doesn't let anybody take any thing. He doesn't loan any money and all his employees probably think he's a jerk.

Every job I have ever had would fire you on the spot for not calling in sick. You were either at work or you called in. And you better call early.
