Another ?

I have been reading the book by Paul Turkey and he stated that st. augustine grass is not recommened for organic use because it does not come in a seed form. Is there any turf up north that is like this? What do you guys do when you need to lay seed? Do you just skip that step and lay the compost? Thanks
