8000 vs 9000, need help deciding

I was wondering the difference in ease of sharpening straignt blades between these 2 models the picture looks like the 9000 has a larger table to slide the blade on, the only curved blade I have is on a 21" that is not used much.

Also, if you could expalin the other differences in a bit of detail that would greatly help me to decide.

HP 1/2 or 1, will a larger HP motor last longer?
Duty cycle, Continious/100% or standard;
capacitors, single or dual;
solid state switch, with or without;
mount type, c flange or foot pad;
Transmission, direct drive or timing belt and pully

Thanks a bunch.

If I'm not mistaken, the 9000 now has 3/4 hp.

I bought a 9000 a month or so ago and have been well pleased. When I sharpen mulching blades, all I sharpen is the end cutting edge. But most of the blades I use are straight blades. It sharpens far better than new blades come.

It also has the foot pads. I didn't know that and thought I would have to mount it to my work table. It stays in place extremely well. I could mount it to my table but really don't feel the need to.

Call Magna-Matic. They're very helpful and actually helped me realize I needed the cheaper 9000 rather than the 8000.

well their is a wait for the magna matic

hey all i can not believe that their is a wait due to the fact they are out of the motors for the sharpeners. I got all pumped up to buy one and i called and a factory rep stated their is a 4-6 week wait. wow a wait in the busy season for lawncare professionals.

Hello All,

Yes, its true we sometimes have a wait due to motors. Baldor's factories are at capacity I am told, we order far in advance. However sometimes it does occur due to the popularity of our equipment that there is a wait.

Motors are due in on 9/17-18/07 MAG-9000 will be shipping/available next week. The customers that did have a wait, will have waited approx 2 weeks.

The MAG-8000 was not on backorder, this was only the MAG-9000 motor that was causing a hold up.

Hello Lawn Cutting Foo,

There are many differences between the units, I'll list some links to our website for some good info, as well as, give you some of the main points in this post. ALSO, don't hesitate to call, and we can discuss all the information if you prefer. 8000-328-1110

The MAG-9000 extended work table is intended for high-lift blades, it can also make sharpening some other straight blades easier also, as long as the whole blade is one flat surface, with the exception of the lifts.

The MAG-8000 and MAG-9000 are the same in the function of how they sharpen a straight blade, we also have an extended work table for the MAG-8000 but it is not nearly as large as the MAG-9000's extended table.

See Sharpener manaul here, includes both models:

MAG-8000 Specs

MAG-9000 Specs
http://www.magna-matic.com/sharpener...000/specs.html

As lawnspecialties mentioned the MAG-9000 is now a 3/4 HP unit for 2007, and yes if you only have one curved mulching blade it is more cost effective to use the MAG-9000 and do the first 1-2 inches in the MAG-9000.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you,

Hello All,

The MAG-9000 is a 3/4 HP unit, yes we have a typo on the site, I'll get that fixed. Thank you for the heads up.

Hello All,

Just an update, I got the MAG-9000 spec page fixed. It now shows the correct 3/4 HP Baldor Motor. The MAG-9000 was changed to a 3/4 HP in spring of 2007.

Thank you,
