What experience does anyone have with material screeners. I am in the market for one and have used 4 or 5 different types with varying success.

I am going to screen out soil - mostly loam and compost. Also I'd want to screen some fill or non-loam type stuff.

I have had great luck with a trommel (Wildcat), Good luck with a deck type (Extec) and less success with a couple types of shakers and some success but a lot of labor with a Royer Shredder, albeit it was an older model.

I am looking for some feedback if anyone has any pros or cons. It would be really helpful if someone has logged a good amount of hours rather than the 40-80 I have experienced. Thanks.

This is a domanant machine up this way. Built with heavy specs.

We used a Read once, and it was great for the dry or rocky stuff. As soon as we tried some wet stuff or compost it wouldn't run through. I think that type works well for separating aggregate like stone, gravel, or sand.

I would take a look out for a powerscreen. I you look at the construction compared to some others I think they do it better. IMHO. I have to find the sales guys biz card around here somewhere.. shamus I believe covers the ct area.

I will take a look and see if I can find it

putting a liitle fire under my butt to look for it

This is the best pic I can find, but if you notice in the picture the top screens are i-beam like (the picture does not show it too good) so you don;t keep break the like rebar type top plates of most others. The screens also come out very easy, 3 screws per side.

Give them a looking into.

Thanks for the lead. After that post, we got our hands on a 5x12 CEC screenit double deck screener with two discharge belts. We put a couple of thousand yards of material through in about a weeks time. I was loading with a wheel loader, so we were running slower than optimum, but with an excavator, the machine would have flown. I would definitely recommend the machine - it was producing 2" minus on one side and 3/8" minus off of the other, with all 2" plus waste discharged off of the backside - as fast as we could load it!

I managed sand&gravel plants for ten years, and used many types of portable screening plants. In my opinion, the Powerscreen is the best of the small portable plants on the market. The price is reasonable, they do a good job on all types of materials,(with the right screen setup), and they are well built.
