Ferris z3100 bogs on start

Have a month old z3100 with 61" deck and 26 l/c kawasaki.I need to have the engine at full speed to engage blades or it will stall.Anyone else with this problem ? I am picking up the bagger tomorrow and that will put even more drag on it.It has 14 hrs on it.Dealer said it may just be tight when new and it should get better.Wonder if I made a bad choice in engines ?

My dad's JD 345 with a l/c 20hp Kawi is the same way. It has to warm up for about 3-5 minutes before you can think about turning the blades on. I wouldn't have gotten the l/c engine. I probably would have gotten the 30hp Vanguard. How long do you wait after cranking the engine to turn the blades on?

I have'nt noticed any problems. I mean they all drop revs when clutching but bog or even stall is'nt normal.

With 14hrs the engine is'nt broken in yet nor are the pumps. All adds drag. Did you change the oil in the first 10hrs ?

Also check all the belts and idler pulleys. They may be too tight or deformed from sitting for months in storage.

As for the engine it's a nice piece. Does warm up longer but holds the temp. stable without fuss. Not as much power as others but quieter, smoother and easy on fuel. You'll learn to like it.

Something is wrong with yours. 15 sec is enough to get the oil flowing. You then warm up the engine with light work as you go.

Trust me, warming up on idle is not good for the engine and is also a waste of fuel and time.

My 3100 Is the same way. it Takes a lot to get those big hurcules spindles turning. Dealer checked with engineering and they said they design there clutches on the 3100 & Up to be engaged at wide open throttle

It wont get better mine has 350 Hours on it.

The fuel pump was replaced under warranty, and that helped, but it still takes a long time to get the engine warmed up. I usually let it warm up at about half throttle and drive it around the yard a little bit. It's got 98 hrs. I rarely use this mower, only if my Ferris is out of service. I really think 20hp is not enough for the 54" deck. 22-24hp would be better.

I have a 61/25 ferris Comfort ride WB and when i first got mine i noticed that too... The machine didnt die but it definitely lost a lot of power. Easiest solution to the problem that my shop told me to do is pull your choke up just a little bit.. I engage my blades at no more then half power and the choke pulled up a little and it works flawlessly.. Give it a try

About 15 seconds, and if you had tried mine when you were running it, that 28 efi will start the blades in the lowest throttle setting and never change sounds. The 27's I owned that were not fuel injected had to be at least 1/2 throttle or it would kill the engine.

But the problem I guess has only started with the 2008 model year with the 26 L/C Kawasaki.
