Governer?

Ok.........I have a Quick 36 and while mowing today, the Briggs 16 h.p. ELS for no apparent reason started to run WIDE open with no control from the throttle lever. After shutting the egine off and restarting, it goes right back to WIDE open throttle. All of the springs seem to be in place
on the carb and governer arm. Any ideas as to what's causing this? Thanks

The governor arm slipped on the shaft/lever, The screws holding the butterfly to the throttle shaft vibrated out, Or the governor slung apart.

Check the carb first by looking through with a flashlight, Then check the governor adjustment. If the carb is OK and adjusting doesn't solve the problem then it looks like tear-down time.

Good Luck
