PTO won't engage on JD 318

I've actually posted on this very same thing before, then it was the seat safety switch, now I think it may have progressed further on up the line.

I gave the tractor to a friend of mine, now it's come back to me, shortly to be shipped elsewhere. I'm trying to get the thing working.

First it wouldn't crank up but that was an easy fix, just the switch on the hydro control. Now the PTO won't engage and it kills it when you try.

The seat switch was cut and wires twisted together when the other guy had it, which should have it thinking someone's on the seat but apparently it ain't goin' for it.

Do I trace the line further up into the mower and cut it there and twist those wires together or what? I don't want to start cutting until I think that's what I HAVE to do.

Thanks guys.

Fixed it.

I traced the wire for the seat switch further up and found a faulty fuse.
