treating ponds

I have two large ponds at a farm that are nearly and acre and half in size , one has a fountain for areation but the other does not. Obviously the one without there is lots of algae and duckweed that have formed mats on the surface. Is there any better method than just adding the algeacide and raking the mats off to keep control of these problems through the summer longer?
