1 koi per 200-300 gallons? Most of my ponds do well with 4-6 koi in our average 600 gal ponds. Considering the customer stays with that number. We just did a cleanout that had 14 12" koi in a 500 gal pond

I said IDEAL stocking levels. I don't have a customer that abides by these figures. My own pond is overstocked. These levels are promoted by the highly serious Koi collectors. I have read one expert promoting ONE (1) Koi per 500 gallons. Personally,I feel, if one is fairly religious about testing their Pond water, I feel that they can safely set their own levels. I must add that I have run across Ponds that remind me of overcrowded tenements. You know that can't be a healthy, happy environment for the fish!
