dilema please help!

I am a newer start up and just bought my first commercial walkbehind last year. last month I got my dba and stuff and went to insure the machine only to find out that the serial # was gone. I can't afford to turn it in what can I do? I have printed all the emails from the guy off craigslist I bought it from and carry it with me. any thoughts beside beating the vrap outta the guy that sold it
