They seem like they waste so much time, but everybody seems to use them. I like them because they are comfortable to use, and I like them better than having to sit down. I feel like i have more control of the mower if i am standing. They just don't have a crisp clean cut like other commercial walk behinds or mid-mounts. Maybe im just picky, but i like the yard to be smooth and clean cut.
Your gonna get a ton of BS here. Most of the replies will come from guys under 30 with no broad based industry experience..... who dont have a good eye and cut like 25-50 houses. The guys that have used all sorts of mowers and understand where some mowers excel moreso than others will tell you the opposite answer.

Yeah, I would definitely take advice from the guy who criticizes everyone who tries to help you out, and not give his own answer to the question. NOT!

It could be your blades. I put Gator blades on my 52" Everride Scorpion this spring and it cut like crap. Left uncut blades, mowhawks, and if the grass was long and thick, be ready to double cut. I put new blades on (standard blades) and it cut extremely well again. The Gators really messed with the airflow of the deck. I couldn't even blow grass off of cement if I drove over it.

I agree and have said before that I think the quality of cut should be the utmost important thing when choosing a mower. However there are a ton of people on this site that base their main reason for buying a mower on how fast it will go, does it have suspension, and the worst one ever-how cheap it is! etc........

Now I believe that all the other factors should be considered but should not be the defining reason why you ultimately buy a machine.

I get a kick out of guys you talk to about the mower they own and you ask them what they think about their mower and they say something like this-"Well it is super fast, overall pretty reliable, has a cool deck lift mechanism, priced cheaper than some of the others, but it doesn't cut real even, and the deck is forever clogging up, other than that it is the best mower I have ever owned and I would buy another just like it!"

WHAT????? Makes you question people's priorities when buying a machine of this nature. Maybe I'm wrong to think that cut quality should be the first thing on the list of why to buy a certain machine.

our factory blades are sharpend every other week, and stop coming up with the BS excuses about "operator error" i/we know how to drive a mower. the fact is there are better cutting mowers with much better suction out there then standers, ya there OK, but not that great!

I would have to agree with JohnnyRocker. It is either a blade sharpening issue or the tip speed is not put all the way up. I cut with one the entire season and even in fields that were done bi-weekly the unit left a great cut. Any suggestions on how to get these units to operate better when you are on a severe downslope? The left wheel(the one without the weight of the gas tank) always wanted to spin out when I tried to slow the unit down. Any help is appreciated.

you might want to look into the deck angle. you want it to have a slight rake from front to back, like a quarter inch. that might be the problem, deck needs adjusting. just a thought. vince
