im not real sure which machine is better than the other but i know for a fact that the cut quality of the john deere 7-iron puts the exmark to shame....especially in wet grass.

I would probably go with the toro G3 for these reasons. First, the warranty on the toro is much better 5years/1200 hours. The turbo force deck cuts just as good if not better then the 7-iron in certain conditions. If you are just cutting fields the 7-iron may do a little better, but if this is the case go with scag. If you are going to be mulching (baffles), I would go with the toro. If you look at both machines side by side, I believe you will see the toro is a much better built machine. Dealer location and service is another question.
Demo both machines before purchasing. Also demo an exmark. I know toro an exmark are the same machine, but the decks are totally different. If you are cutting mostly sodded yards go with exmark.
I believe that the turbo force deck is the best deck for most conditions.
JD 7-iron- Cuts great in most conditions/best in wet
Mulching is ok
Mower not built as well
Warranty is ok
Toro TB- Cuts great in most conditions/ok in wet
Mulching-will not find a better deck
Built well
Warranty best
Exmark- Cuts best in perfect dry conditions/wet is awful/deck discharge
opening is too small
Mulching-second to toro/too much blow in the front of deck
Built well
Warranty second to toro/depends how many hours you put on
mower in a year
Scag- Cuts best in poor conditions
Mulching is ok
Best built of all
Warranty is ok
I hope this helps.

Would be nice if John Deere would show how confident they are in the new Z9 series and offer a better warranty! 2 year bumper to bumper is common.

i have never used a JD but i do own 2 g3's. If you are mowing hills the g3 is the most stable mower i have ever used. When it comes to the warrenty your definitly going to need it, my g3's were in the shop about once a week. I think toro still needs to do alittle more R&D with these machines, they have alot of weak links.

Sorry but the 5year/1200 hour warranty is bogus.
Do some math on it. Say you use the mower 30hrs a week for 9 months out of a year. Your warranty would be over in LESS than 2 years.
2 year warranty is looking pretty good then.
