Is it a local paper or a larger one where many over 10K will see it?

I would reccomend a direct mailing type of advertising then- You are guaranteed it will reach every home and you can better target what you sell or offer- the other way newspapers, yellow pages etc... it does not reach everone and 9 out of 10 are usually major league shoppers.

I have tried the print media and do very well with direct mail and a biweekly ad in a smaller newspaper (this goes out bi-weekly April -July then Sept-Nov.)

I was planning on doing door hangers this year....how does the direct mailing work and do you know how much it costs?

There are some great books at barnes and noble on direct marketing. Basically you send a flyer/ letter to a targeted area, the most important part is the list and the offer. That is who you send to and what you offer.

me personally, although my area differs from others, have not had success in newspaper advertisement. Direct mail and referrals are the best way I feel

we mostly use doorhangers-cost about $40/500.They have been very effective for us.They let you target specific neighborhoods you want to be in.We try to canvas a 2 mile area around our shop.We started last week walking neighborhoods and have already started getting calls.Using the newspaper is more sporadic and not necessarily in your mowing area if you live in a larger city.Eventually, most new business will come from referrals.
