Cub Cadet 3660 Electric PTO/CLUTCH Problem

Hi
Homeowner with a Cub 3660 Commercial has the Kohler 25Hp engine. The PTO has started to shut off at times when mowing. Seems to do this after about 25 minutes of cutting then about every ten after that. Can get it back on by engaging and playing with thottle. Is this a sign the clutch is bad or can it be an adjusment, any help appreciated.

I adjusted the clutch last night and cut for an hour with no isuues, then it started to disengage again. This time however as soon as I pulled the switch it came right back on. The clutch breakdown photo you posted would make me think you could rebuild these things if needed do you know if thats true and where you can get a rebuild kit? Cant believe what they charge for a new one.

Jim,

Check all your wire harness plug connections and switches. Make sure none are loose/corroded or rusted. A bad connection can cause heat build-up and voltage drops.

Restrorob - thanks for the link to the older post. I'm in a similar situation - do I need to take the clutch off the tractor before adjusting with the feeler gage?
I'm assuming so - dropped the blades for better access, but couldn't get the nut off the shaft. It turns freely with the engine. Any advice?
I know, I know - rookie....

You shouldn't need to remove the clutch just for adjustment, I don't recall ever having to on any type machine.....

Resto,

The mower has been pretty good for the most part only popping off after it gets run for about an hour then it will keep doing it but comes right back on. I tried taping the pto switch up in the on position after it started doing it and it never went off. Would this be due to a voltage drop or a bad switch in your opinion.

Sounds like a bad switch, Burnt contacts inside causing a bad connection once warmed up.
