Top tips
Hi everyone
Im hoping to start a landscape business part time when i leave college in a few weeks. I am in the UK but nothing like this forum exists over here which i know of. I plan for most of my work to be general maintainance such as grass and hedge cutting etc. What would your top tips be for a startup? |

Don't spend to much money starting out. Wait and see how much business you get before laying down alot of coin. Are you going back to school in the fall? If so, do you have a plan in place to service your accounts after you are in school. When my younger brother was in college, he was always hounding me about getting more business, so he could help for the summer. The problem is that I have 8 more weeeks of cutting after he went back to school. Now he is a teacher and he still bothers me about it. But now his summers start even later around the 2nd week in June. He never grasped the fact June, July, and Augest are actually my easiest months. Early and late in the season is when I could use the help.

12 month service agreements...billed a month in advance. Figure out how many visits each customer will get and average out the payment over 12 months. You'll be glad you did in the off season.
