Working around septic tanks doesn't really bother me some people have weak stomachs.

My bad, it's actually just the top of the in flow line that has a tee on it with a piece of pipe right to the top of the tank, minus a notch, not an inch.
This is assuming the out flow pipe is at least 6" lower than the in flow and you never let the tank get over the in flow pipe's height.
The tee is just to keep the solids from plugging up around the in flow.

We call the "T" a baffle. That might make its purpose a little more clear.

Well as you can see in the pic crap floats so untill it starts breaking down where it will settle to the bottom with water self leveling that would hold all the crap in the T plugging up the line. Thats how the baffle on the out feed line works holding all the crap back on the surface and letting the gray water come up in and then out.

Ahh I gotcha tanks around here are setup with the bottom of the in flow even with the top of the out flow so even making sure you have the tank sloped atleast an inch and everything is perfect before the truck leaves we still don't put anything on the end of the infeed just to cut down on chance of a plug

We have tees on the inlet and outlet here. The inlet and outlets are usually 2 inches difference in height.

What was the deal with that wire?? No pipe, sand, or tape? How can a wire of that alleged power look like some homeowner installed a patio light not to code?

Most new septic system installs use plastic tanks easier to handle and they come from the factory/supplier with the T on the inlet and outlet.

Gravity fed septic systems are a rarity now not many new properties have a area large enough for a normal leech field. You have a 1800 gallon septic tank which is gravity fed then the juice flows through a strainer into a pump chamber and pumped to the field.

The stupid ones that forget to pump the tank plug up the effluent filter and it slowly forces its way into the pump chamber and the pump burns out from sucking solids.

We do have issues with the plastic tanks collapsing if installed incorrectly but they are easier to handle.
Luckily we still have lots of room for conventional drainfields and if it is installed correctly they give years of excellent service.
