Liquid weed barrier instead of matting?

Is this bs? I was told by a general contractor that the landscape installer/contractor put down liquid weed barrier in place of matting. Never heard of it! Anyone?

He's probably talking about some type of pre-emergent. I personally wouldn't use either. An organic mulch is your best weed barrier.

Weed barrier\matting is one of the biggest scams in the world. Unless you're using stone mulch.

i use snapshot in all the beds i do, dont waste your time with the weed barrier/mats. only thing they good for is under rock to keep them from sinking into the soil.

I agree to a point..But to be effective in the long run wouldnt it have to be re applied every season due to it breaking down?...And once it decomposed wouldnt it just become compost for the weeds to grow in?
