It looks as though I should be able to replace the guide. It's a $25 part.
The valve looks untouched. I think what happened... The guide got so hot it attached itself to the valve. When I pushed the valve back the guide broke a few pieces off. Just a guess, but ultimately I have no idea. Everything is in perfect condition, just the guide isn't in the best of shape.
