It looks as though I should be able to replace the guide. It's a $25 part.
The valve looks untouched. I think what happened... The guide got so hot it attached itself to the valve. When I pushed the valve back the guide broke a few pieces off. Just a guess, but ultimately I have no idea. Everything is in perfect condition, just the guide isn't in the best of shape. Here's the part description (look for part 14): http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/c...ageServlet_Alt |

Head msrp is 180. Looks like it is on backorder at all distributers (at least on the spec I guessed it was) Valve guide msrp is 21.49 and is available at the Grandrapids, Ontario (ca) and Atlanta distributers. |

What ever he does with it, he should look into why it got so hot. May be running rich.

Running lean is a more likely reason for the heat and by looking at the valve seat in that pic I would not think rich running. Could be a cooling fin.

I just figured running lean would be to simple of an explanation cause I like to think outside the box. ![]() Really, I don't know why I put down rich. |

I'm not sure how it died. It was my father's and as far as I know it just wouldn't turn on one day. He took it to a local dealer that told him that he had a broken crank shaft. He didn't even think they even looked at it and of course they tried to sell him a new tractor. He took it home and it's been sitting there for a couple years. I told him I would go take it to get looked at for him, but instead he just gave it to me. I started taking it apart and that's when I obviously found the valve guide issue.
There is no easy way to pull the guide out and put a new one in? Posted via Mobile Device |

Thanks for the lesson!! My "rich" was a mistake, I thought I mentioned that in my other post!! But you can get higher egt's out of an extremely rich a:f...... Just not likely!! Plus you'd notice the motor idling out of sorts!!
