Trailer tag location

I have put sideboards on the trailer and now there is not enough room on the fender to mount the tag without the trailer being too wide. I could mount it on the gate but it could be hard to keep the tag light wiring in working order and the tag would be hidden when the gate is down. Thanks in advance for any advice to help keep me legal on the road.

In my state you see the tag mounted side ways on the fenders. I had mine there for a long time. No problems. Was even stopped for expired tag on trailer, nothing was said about the way it was mounted.

We mount our tags on the gates of or trailers. We havent had any problems eventhough thy arent lit. How often are you gonna have the gates down while driving?

I mount it to the gate also. I had it under the taillight where it can be lit up, but it scraped the ground too often. It was getting beat up and ready to fall off. So, I put it on the gate. No problems so far.

Thanks for the replies. I will most likely mount it to the gate using heavy duty nylon cable ties. Hopefully not having a tag light will be OK.

Bigfoot i would use bolts and washers to mount the tag to the gates. After you run over the cable ties enough with your mower tires they will break. I know from experiance.
