Shop Blew up engine...:(
Seen someone post a cool "What Happened Here" thread couple weeks ago that i enjoyed so figured i try one myself.
This is an example of what cutting corners will get ya. my seasonal help came in on a saterday and finished up a rebuild of a Kawasaki FH680V DS13 with 3256 hours that was only suffering oil leaks. Opted to go head and replace Rings and Valves and clean everything top to bottom. Everything checked to specs on friday before i gave him the go ahead to put back together. Guess what caused this after 4 hours of use right after an overhaul

My guess is all of those extra parts in there.
Who would have reassembled that engine with those bent bolts and random chunks of metal? Well, at least I think I see the source of the oil leaks. You got a big hole in there. Nothin a little duct tape won't fix. :-) |

lol oh ductape and mechanics wire are these guys favorite things... some machines come in looking like a piece of art rather than equipment.

Is it tough to find a torque wrench on saturday?....
It couldn't have been the governor adjustment...Could it ? Green mechanics are expensive to break in...Wear Safety Glasses |

notice that one bolt is larger than the other? i was informed after it went back out monday that when he was putting it back together saterday, he had one of the bolts on the connecting rod strip out... instead of waiting to replace the connecting rod like he should have he decided to use longer bolt. said it tightened to the correct tourq but what he didnt realize was it was not a torque specific bolt...it was just a basic bolt without the larger head surface.. I'm guessing it either striped out the rest of the 3 or 4 threads it was able to grab, or it just backed out after heating up and cooling down when he tested for leaks on saterday. Needless to say $120 overhaul is now $570 on top of that.. cant blame him, only his 3rd rebuild....live and learn lol
