Mag 8000 vs Mag 9000

Both list that they sharpen blades in 60 seconds. So what's the major benefit to the 8000?

Has anyone used both who can give a good comparison?

Also using the Mag 9000 isn't the grinding wheel going to wear at an angle? It seems like the blade would only touch the very front portion of the grinding wheel. Am I not understanding this right?

The primary difference between the two units is that the MAG-8000 is designed for use by Servicing Dealers, Lawn mower shops, sharpening shops.
The reason for that is its ability to sharpen curved cutting edge mulching blades and conventional blades. This makes the MAG-8000 the universal machine for the industry sharpening almost any lawn mower blade out there including brush hog blades in high volume. The MAG-8000 has a full 1 HP industrial motor made for continious duty operation.

The MAG-9000 was designed for lawn care pros and grounds keepers, for sharpening conventional straight blades, and to be compact and portable. The MAG-9000 can do a low volume of brush hog blades. The MAG-9000 has a 3/4 HP standard duty industrial motor.

We designed the units to specific applications not the standard GOOD - BETTER - BEST model line-up like many companies present products. So you do not have a choice of performance but rather how you will use the equipment.

The MAG-9000's grinding wheel WILL wear at an angle, the machine is designed to do that.

You are correct with a brand new grinding wheel you will only be grinding on the corner of the wheel, however this does not last very long - after the first few blades it will dress itself to a flat surface, and then you will actually have a larger than 1" wide surface area contacting the blade with does slightly boost grinding speed.

We approach at an angle to prevent the use of a dual direction motor (which is unsafe in grinding application) and also so you are not limited to how long of a cutting edge you can sharpen. Many blade grinder makers, limit the cutting edge length per model, they make you buy a more expensive grinder to do a longer cutting edge.

Can you explain how it keeps the same angle as the wheel wears down. I don't doubt that it does. I just can't understand how it does. I've looked at the manual but still couldn't figure it out.

First, I don't know if you noticed but we are not that far away from each other, so if you'd ever like to stop by (by appointment please, we're under construction and everything is moved around so we need to set up demo equipment if you would come for a demo).

The way we maintain the angle has to do with the design of our adjustment - controlling how we move the grinding wheel. As long as you keep adjusting the grinding wheel down to where it would almost contact the work table, the cutting edge angle on the lawn mower blade will consistently be cut at 30degrees.
