W/C Insurance

Have an oppertuity for do some work for a couple high end mobile home parks, not mowing but plantings, mulch, pruning, etc. My company has been in business since 1999. It is just my partner and me, as we do all the work, not any outside hired help. This mobile home part has asked if we carry Workmans Comp and our reply was we are the owner, no employees hired and we have our own full medical insurance. Does anyone know if owners need this coverage, as we have never been asked before. In Iowa

Not sure in Iowa, but in Indiana you can opt out, but you have to get a letter from the state. If you do opt out, not only do you need med insurance. You also will want to get a long term disability policy in case you are permanently disabled. The longer you can maintain a life style without the disability kicking in, the cheaper it is also.
