Collaboration

I'm starting a new thread to continue the discussion that went off-topic on the Volt thread.

There were some great points made about competition, and several posts that promoted the idea that competitors need not be adversarial.

I know a couple contractors in Florida that are a great example of collaboration. It started when a lighting designer from England decided to move to Florida to start a landscape lighting business. He needed training, licensing, and a way to make local connections. He set up base about seventy miles south from an established, very successful landscape lighting guy.

I introduced the two of them, then the established guy helped the newcomer get started. He brought him into a number of jobs and trained him. They then pooled their marketing dollars to cover the entire region. All jobs north or south of each went to the indivdual contractor. All jobs in their shared region, they worked together and shared the profits. It's worked out very well for both.

Any other stories of collaboration?
