20 yards of mulch, can I make money?

20 yards for $1000, about half easy access. No prep work. Price for mulch here is $26, but might buy larger load to get for closer to $20.

Need to do it to get cutting job, which is little over $200 for 10 unit apt complex, but only 25,000 sq ft of grass, Grass is all over the place, some areas where only a 21" can reach.

Using 48" hydro to cut most of it.

If you don't mind making a mear 480 bucks BEFORE expenses for a days work then i suppose its ok. Would i do it for that price, No i woulden't. I would be minumum $1,800.00 for 20 yards installed.

Don't necessarily listen to these guys.

It depends on YOUR situation, not theirs.

Around me, a bunch of contractors are at $35-40 a yard.

You just have to be efficient. Besides, you should have some profit built into your labor rate as well as mulch.

You folks who think you can get/charge $90 a yard for a 20 yard job should be committed. Maybe they can find out what drugs you are on.

I live in a pretty high rent district and if I tried to charge that they would laugh me right out of the neighborhood. I usually come in around 60 or 65 at the most per yard depending on access.

At 50 a yard you can make money it just won't be much. Depends how bad you need it and what future business it will bring. I am more than happy to charge a customer a cut rate if I know I will be getting additional work from them down the road.

If it is a one time deal no way am I doing it for that number.

i don't "think" i know, we do roughly 200 yards of mulch a year and i have been pricing it the same for 5+ years. all of whome are repeat customers. And have never once had someone tell us we were out of line with our pricing.

We charge $65per yard installed for just the labor, Plus whatever mulch they want, our mulch varies in price from 20-50 bucks depending on what kind they want.

So if we are bidding a 20 yard mulch job we make a minimum of $1300 for just labor.

thanks, you all pretty much said what I thought. I probably won't lose anything if we bust it out, but won't make anything either.

The mulch price came from he guy doing it before. Looks like they're probably going to keep the job as I hesitated when the mulch price came up and I asked the guy to give me a day to think about it. They look like a legitimate large company. Can't understand how they are so cheap. Only thing I can think of is they have illegal labor like so many others.

The rest of the bid seemed ok, but not numbers where you say I have to have this job.
