I don't believe that is possible... I bet it isn't started yet, even in full sun areas... anyone else in the NE have CG germination???

Some pictures would be nice... I see on the soil tempeature map, that we are about in the same range...
If I have germination I can't see it yet... How large are your CG plants right now?

That is odd. Are you sure its crabgrass--not knotweed?
According the the soil temperature map you are colder than we are--and I have not seen any sign of crabgrass yet (expect it soon).
http://www.greencastonline.com/SoilTempMaps.aspx

Do you know your GDD base 32? (Growing degree days, base 32). According to Michigan data, crabgrass should be treated by 800 GDD(base 32).
http://gddtracker.net/?model=10&offset=0&zip=49508
Be sure to click "Crabgrass PRE" on the right side of the screen. Put in the zip code of East Lansing, 48823, and it allows you to see the full data.
However it is confusing in spots. For Grand Rapids it shows for preemergent timing GDD32, an accumulation of 785 so far, and a cutoff to further treatments at 800.
For crabgrass germination, they use GDD base 50, and it shows an accumulation of 98, and germination beginning at 100 GDD. Late germination is at 600 to 1400 GDD(base 50).

What does everyone recommend for a mowing height for kbg/rye? I'm at 3" now and am thinking about bumping it up to 3.5".

I like to cut even at 2.5 in the Spring to open up the ground to warm sunshine then cut it higher as the season moves along...
