Nice Pike, I have never caught one or seen one in person. Looks kinda like a Gar. Are they any good to eat?

I caught a few pike in my days. The only time I have had pike was in Canada last year when our guide made some for lunch, I thought it was ok but it is a fish we never keep because they are hard to filet, and we would rather release them so we can catch them again.
Plan on going out this week as long as the storms are latter in the day.

Pike are great to eat. But like Trevor said, they are difficult to filet if you dont have the right method. I always release though so it doesnt matter to me. Most guys i know who keep pike only keep ones over 30"s. They are not like a gar at all. They are a cold water predator that grow into the 30lb range at ripe old age.

Well, I skipped this weekend. Temps. have been 100+ for the past few days, no fun to fish in.
I may try some surf fishing soon, been hearing reports of nice Trout being caught in the surf. One guy I know said he brought home a limit, 10 fish, and released about 3 more limits. Sounds like my kinda fun.

I went out saturday with my dad and we caught a little over 20 bass, 2 walleye, 2 crappie, 1 bluegill, and 1 sunfish. It was a very nice day on the water.
PLS, we are getting the same heat you are, it was over 100 yesterday, and probably again today.

![]() We also got some much needed rain here on Monday, been very dry. I'm hoping to get out for a bit on Sat. if we get caught up tomorrow. Maybe the rain will help the fishing, the marsh has been real salty because of the drought.

Was hoping to get out saturday but we have had over 3 inches of rain in 24 hours with more on the way, so it looks like I will have to mow. The DOT even closed down a high way in western Iowa because water was about to flow over it.

I have always been an avid fisherman, but the last few years I have not. Looking at some of the pictures, I am ready to get out and do some fishing. I love fresh water Bass fishing and Salt Water Striped Bass fishing! I have been thinking about a new Parker boat, perfect boat IMO for fall and winter Stripers.
