Native Compost vs Dual Axle Trailer?

Do you all think a double Axle Trailer can haul four cubic yards of Native Compost mix (1200 lbs per cubic yard). I know the rating on double axle trailer is north of 5000 lbs, but thats just data sheet numbers.

I have't hauled that much (normally have it delivered, but trying to save $150.00) and wanted to get your insight. Don't want to take any chances and break a trailer.

Let me know your thoughts.

Well...do the math...4 x 1.2 = 4.8, and if you have a tandem trailer, it's probably weighted for 7500, minus the trailer weight...so say 6000-ish to be safe, so you've got basically a 1000 pound window.

But you already knew that.

As long as the trailer axles, suspension, and decking are in good condition, not to mention tires and bearings and other little things...I don't see why that should be a problem whatsoever.

I wouldn't hesitate to put that much weight on my trailer and mine's 11 years old.

Well also if your truck can handle that. I have a 14' PJ Dual axel trailer that is 6000 empty and have hauled up to 5yds of wet topsoil with no problem with my chevy 3500 heavy but doable if you take your time.

I do 4 yards all the time of natural mulch which ranges from 700-1000lbs depending on water content. I have put on 6.5 yards of compost and found out that was to heavy. Just make sure your trailer brakes work.

REmember this is your dymanic weight, not static,

Sure it can hold it and tow it..... BUT what happens when you put pressure on it like humps in the road...

Also remember about you TRUCK rating..

DO NOT get a ticket for interstate commerance

the issue is. IS he over loaded.....

Thanks for your insight. We ended up not taking the risk and splitting the the load in two.

No overloading...
brakes works...
No deaths....
No law suits.

It took a little longer to finish the job, however, in the end it all worked out. Thanks again.
